Canal Dance Center
The Canal Dance Centre (CDC), which belongs to the Community of Madrid, opened in 2009 as an artistic venue dedicated to the creation and diffusion of dance and the arts of movement.
Offering support to dance companies is one of its main objectives, stimulating their activity and offering a working environment suitable to the sector. Each year, the Centre announces an open call to professionals for its residency programmes.
The five-floor building is integrated within the Canal Theatres complex and has nine rehearsal rooms.
More than 200 resident companies and 600 professionals have developed their proposals, thanks to the call Do you have a choreographic project? The CDC develops an annual call for temporary residencies and is now running its 9th edition. The aim of this programme is to boost choreographic creation by offering companies the opportunity to develop new ideas in the best conditions.
Since 2009, the Víctor Ullate Ballet-Comunidad de Madrid is the Canal Dance Centre’s associated company.
These activities are complemented by numerous activities for professionals -to whom the centre is aimed (such as courses, master classes, meetings, talks, auditions, presentations of work, etc.). But future professionals are also taken into account (students at dance schools and conservatories) and, of course, the promotion of tomorrow’s public is fostered (activities with school children, with different civic groups etc.)
