Canal Dance Center
The Centro Danza Canal (CDC), reporting to the Region of Madrid, opened its doors in 2009 as a space for artists working in the creation and dissemination of dance and other arts of movement.
The building is integrated into the Teatros del Canal complex and has nine rehearsal studies and a conference room.
Its main objectives are to:
- SUPPORT CREATION
We want to support companies and creators through residencies and activities for professionals, co-productions, sporadic stays… The CDC provides an environment that is perfect for working, as well as activities that complement development: master classes, workshops, chats and internationalisation projects.
The CDC opens a public call for residencies each year for dance professionals, who are then selected by a national and international jury.
We want the CDC to stand out as a tool for development of new audiences for dance and the arts of movement. The CDC is open to all types of people, with the mission that all activities created in this space will have an impact on citizens of the Region of Madrid. The proposals are aimed at integration and are addressed to children, families, students, groups in situations of risk, adolescents and seniors who take part in workshops, open shows, talks that accompany the programming and specific mediation activities.
- SPACE FOR REFLECTION
We want the CDC to be a stable space for thought on dance and the performing arts, bringing together academic and professional fields with the general public. To disseminate this artistic field, we are planning a theoretical framework to go hand-in-hand with the CDC programming and its activities: accessibility to spreading the oeuvre of outstanding dancers, shared with significant personages from our performing tradition, theatre programming and publicising of the academic research conducted in this field.
